A Dairy Barns Hickling wedding

I’ve photographed at Dairy Barns, Hickling a few times before and loved the venue, so was delighted when Jake & Maxine booked me for their Dairy Barns wedding in April!

The Venue

Dairy Barns, Hickling is perfect for a small & intimate wedding – it’s a beautiful rustic barn, surrounded by fields and only a short hop & skip away from the beach at Sea Palling.  Maxine & Jake don’t live in the area but often come for holidays and breaks, so what better place than to hold their family wedding!

They chose Dairy Barns because of it’s lovely location and size, perfect for their small wedding party.  It was a blustery day with lots of cloud, wind and rain showers, but nothing dampened the enthusiasm and smiles during their special day.

Getting Ready

Maxine got ready in one of the Barn’s beautiful B&B rooms with her sister (and bridesmaid) helping her, whilst Jake was over in Wroxham with his best man.

 The Ceremony

The ceremony took place inside the Barn – which was simply decorated with little hearts and a gorgeous sheer backdrop behind the ceremony table, with fresh flowers pinned to it.  Maxine managed not to get soaked during the short walk from her room to the barn and the ceremony went off without a hitch.

The Afternoon Reception

Once the ceremony finished, the guests were treated to drinks & canapes whilst we got some family photos in the shelter of the outside barn area, before sitting down to the wedding breakfast, which was followed by the speeches.

With perfect timing, the rain stopped after the speeches so I grabbed Maxine & Jake & we ran outside to get some couple photos around the barn! Once back at the barn, their transport to the second part of their day had arrived – a gorgeous red & white VW Camper van, with the most spectacular floor inside. As we’d planned, and thankfully without rain, the couple followed me to Sea Palling beach in the VW Camper van, where Maxine braved the steep sand dune hills in her heels & dress. Back to the camper van and we made our way over to Wroxham where the Vintage Broadsman boat was waiting for the wedding party, ready for a potter down the river for their evening reception.

The Details

Maxine & Jake had chosen a daisy theme for their wedding, which perfectly complemented the rustic barn setting.  Maxine wore a dress from Bridal Suite, Nottingham, and her bouquet and wedding flowers were all beautifully put together by her bridesmaid and sister, Ellie.  Flamingo Amy created Maxine’s hairstyle and make up, with the wedding cakes being supplied by Little Millies.

The Evening

I left Maxine & Jake after I’d shot a few photos on the boat along with a “cake cutting” shot, to cruise off down the river for their evening party – what a novel way to enjoy an evening reception!

Advice from the wedding couple

“Keep organised and search around before choosing things. Try and enjoy everything!”

I loved this small family wedding and was delighted to photograph again at Dairy Barns – and get onto the beach, as well as grab some bonus shots at Wroxham by the river! Thanks Maxine & Jake for trusting me to capture your big day and I wish you both every happiness together!
