Janie & Matt chose The Assembly House, Norwich for their wedding ceremony and reception – an elegant historic Georgian house and hotel in a beautiful setting, in the heart of Norwich. They chose the venue because of it’s central location and good food (they do wonderful afternoon teas!)
Janie & Matt are genuinely one of the loveliest couples I’ve met and are so obviously totally in love with each other. They both have the most infectious smiles and sense of fun, which was very evident on the wedding day! We had their engagement session over on Southwold Beach in the evening sunlight last year and they were both so naturally at ease in front of my camera, it was such a fun evening.
Janie got ready at home with her bridesmaid and mum, whilst Matt got ready at the venue, where they’d booked a room to stay in after the celebrations. The girls all wore lovely colourful cover up gowns with their names on, before they got dressed ready to leave for the ceremony. Janie had bought wonderful bright blue strappy heels to wear with her gorgeous dress from Wed2B. Janie left home in a friend’s fabulous old Austin Riley (after the tyre had had a quick pumping up!) – a really special way to travel. Meanwhile, Matt got ready with his best man at the Assembly House, where they were staying after the ceremony. The boys wore smart blue check suits from Slaters with contrasting buttonholes that matched the bouquets.
Janie’s litle flower girl Alisha, was the first to appear at the door and was at first a little hesitant to walk down the red carpet on her own, but with a bit of encouragement from Janie’s bridesmaid, Maxine, she was soon persuaded. Maxine, then Janie followed, and there were massive smiles all round as the ceremony progressed, with only a brief blip with the ceremony vows being repeated, which caused much laughter. It’s such a beautiful room to get married in with lovely decor, the grand piano, balcony and big windows filling the room with light. We grabbed a few photos of the official register signing, then everyone headed out whilst the room was made ready for the wedding breakfast.
The Afternoon Reception
Because it was such a lovely day it was easy for everyone to congregate outside the front of the venue for canapes & drinks in the sunshine and a few photos – the pretty fountain at the front of the Assembly House provided a bit of cool relief from the warmth outside. There’s a perfect room upstairs at the venue for taking bigger group photos with guests arranged around the small garden at the front. We also found a lovely spot within the grounds of the Assembly House to get some fun (and formal) family group shots in the shade.
Janie & Matt chose a travel theme – they’ve both travelled around all over the world and love to visit new places – as Matt said in his speech they’ve probably visited more places in the time they’ve known each other than some people have in a lifetime! Guests could take home Janie & Matt’s personalised wedding day playlist on CD as well as sign a guestbook which had photos of their friends & family printed – what a lovely idea! The flowers on the tables matched the stunning bouquets Maxine & Janie had – so bright and colourful, with the table and place names being made by Confetti Print.
The Evening Reception
Once the wedding breakfast and speeches were over, we took a wander over to nearby Chapelfield Gardens, passing lots of people at the theatre who clapped as Janie & Matt walked past! We spent 15 minutes or so taking some portraits in the gardens at Chapelfield – there are some lovely spots in there – before wandering back to the Assembly House for a few more photos and the arrival of the evening guests. Once Janie & Matt had cut their cake (made by Janie’s bridesmaid) it was into the first dance which was a well choreographed routine – they performed it perfectly!
