Dane & Rebecca’s wedding at Southwood Hall
It was a beautiful October day for Dane & Rebecca’s wedding at Southwood Hall, and I arrived to blue skies and sunshine to start photographing Rebecca & her bridesmaids getting ready in the Cartshed Lodge.
Whilst Rebecca and bridal party were having their make up and hair done, Dane was getting ready with his best man and ushers at Southwood house, a quick hop across the car park at Southwood Hall, with my second shooter Boo Marshall taking their photos.
Cartshed Lodge is an ideal place for bridal parties to get ready with it’s light & spacious rooms, and Rebecca & her bridesmaids looked fabulous in their matching floral dressing gowns. Strawberry Bellinis and a chocolate pizza helped the girls get into the wedding spirit before they got into their respective wedding and bridemaid’s dresses ready for the ceremony.
The ushers and best man each got a personalised box with a selection of wedding related presents inside, and the boys looked really dashing in their blue suits, with grey waistcoats and truly unique buttonholes – paper flowers with Lego figures dangling underneath!
We’d been nervously watching the big black clouds that were developing to the back of Southwood Hall, as the plan was to have the ceremony outside – but thankfully the rain held off (despite some ominous rumbling noises from the black clouds) and the ceremony went ahead without a hitch under the pergola. I heard something about burying a sausage in the grounds to hold off bad weather had always worked at Southwood….!
The ceremony all went to plan and the new Mr & Mrs and their guests enjoyed a lively confetti throw on the steps outside the hall – one of my favourite things to photograph – the more confetti the better!
The Afternoon Reception
The wedding guests enjoyed canapes and drinks on the lawn, and we managed to get some of the formal (and informal!) group photos done, before grabbing a few photos of Dane & Rebecca together. We had to work fast as those black clouds were getting blacker and the thunderstorm was getting closer with flashes of lightning in the background. It wasn’t long before the heavens opened and everyone fled to the safety of the outside barn. The guests were then entertained by a wonderful singing Ukulele entertainer whilst having their portraits sketched by a talented caricaturist.
I don’t think I’ve seen a wedding with so many stunning, carefully thought out details – it really was photographic heaven capturing all these thoughtful and beautiful elements! There were personalised dress hangers for the bridesmaids, personalised seat place cards for the bridal party, and gorgeous gift boxes for the flower girls. From white painted branches with baubles and paper flowers on the tables, to the confetti bar where guests could help themselves to their own mix of confetti to gorgeous glass jars full of enticing drink mixes for the wedding guests. Talented Rebecca made the stunning paper flower & jewel laden bouquets herself, and also a personalised bag full of gifts for her husband to be.
The Wedding Breakfast & speeches
I managed to take a few more photos of Rebecca & Dane under umbrellas before everyone headed inside for the wedding meal and speeches, which involved a lot of laughter in the now sun-filled reception room.
The Evening Reception
Back outside again after the meal as the rain had stopped and I took the couple for a good wander around Southwood’s beautiful gardens to get some special images as the sun set in clear skies. We managed to scoot into the field at the back of Southwood & grab a couple of photos before being told there were cows on the other side of the field that might not like their territory being invaded – we left that field pretty fast!
Dane & Rebecca had set up a fantastic photo booth and brought along loads of props for their guests, so everyone was having great fun with this – in fact they actually now run a photobooth business – you can find it here: Snapstation UK.
Inside the venue again for the cake cutting followed by the first dance, after which everyone got up on the dance floor and partied away!
